This month commemorates the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 that shines a light on housing discrimination and segregation, and a recommitment to expanding equal access to housing.
We all know how important this is and the role that each of us plays by helping homeownership become a reality. It is a great time to affirm that each of us is helping build thriving, inclusive communities. It impacts all markets and all neighborhoods.
It is about education and using what we learn to support a better tomorrow for all of us. There are many resources out there.
Here are a few:
• Implicit Bias Training
• Fairhaven Fair Housing Simulator
• Books:
o Color of Law by Richard Rothstein
o The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson
o The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee
I realize that many of you that read this are already on top of this and understand the significance of what celebrating this month is all about as it relates to the Fair Housing Act of 1968. We all know what part we play in change.
Below is a video that I did to honor this month.
As always thank you for allowing me to share my message with you.
