Need something fun to do this upcoming weekend? Well Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 10am to 4pm is the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta. It is located at the Tualatin Lake of the Commons – 8325 SW Nyberg St, Tualatin. As a matter of fact The West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta is on the third Saturday of October each year.
Admission to the festival is free as are most of the activities. Food and souvenirs will be available for purchase.
The West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta is one of the most anticipated fall festivals in the Northwest. People come from all over to watch the spectacle of costumed characters paddling 1,000 pound pumpkins across the Lake of the Commons in a series of wacky races. This family event also includes pumpkin golf, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin crafts, entertainment, 5k run, food, and much more!
Of course, the Regatta wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers! In addition, the PGVG and their members are the generous people that supply the pumpkins for the Regatta. “The Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers (PGVG) is first and foremost an association of gardeners. Our purpose is to promote and encourage the hobby of gardening with a focus placed on the fun of competition and the production of obscenely large healthy vegetables, with an emphasis on pumpkins, as well as recognition of all fruits and vegetables on the international competition list defined by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC).” (pgvg.org) In fact the pumpkin boats are composted by a local company after the Regatta.
