Ballard, WA

Welcome to Our Community

Once a sleepy fishing village in a northwestern corner of the city, Ballard has become one of Seattle’s hippest and most sought after neighborhoods.

Ballard was largely settled by Europeans of Scandinavian origins who were drawn here by the salmon fishing industry. The neighborhood has embraced those roots with the Nordic Heritage Museum. The Museum celebrates Ballard’s community spirit and its Scandinavian history.

Modern day Ballard is home to some of the city’s best music venues, restaurants and bars. An effort to boost urban density in some of Seattle’s neighborhoods led to rapid development in Ballard’s core over the past several years. You can find condos and townhomes an easy walk away from Ballard’s bustling nightlife. But Ballard has maintained its neighborhood charm with historic homes on quiet streets as well.

Ballard residents can be found the enjoying sandy beaches and spectacular views at Golden Gardens Park. There is no prettier place in Seattle than Golden Gardens as the sun sets behind Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. And Ballard is full of marinas and launch points for all kinds of water sports.

One of Ballard’s most popular attractions is the Locks, which allow boats to travel between the salty seawater of Puget Sound and the fresh water in Lake Washington and Lake Union. The Locks carry more boat traffic than any other system in the United States. The fish ladder and nearby botanical gardens are a must-see when you visit the Locks too.
